Twilight: Bella's Journey

Framestore, 2018

Groom, Houdini, Mantra/Arnold

This was the first time doing groom, and WOW I loved it! More of an artistic skill than what I had been used to whilst at Framestore, I created the grooms of 4 characters - two short-hairs males, one short-haired female, and 1 Volturi Female, who had a bun.

Truthfully, they looked fantastic, and I was very proud. Then they wore hoods.

At the start, I referred to the groom scenes of Gabriella Salmeron, my groom lead at Framestore at the time. She was away during the period of doing this work, but I learned a lot from her scenes and in-house tutorials and was soon able improve the quality of my work, with roughly 20 days to groom the first, followed by 15 for the second, then 10 days to groom the final characters. After completing the grooms, I went on to further mentor a colleague on the groom process.

Having a taste for groom, I was eager to do more - but projects with groom were slim, or I'd be doing niche, technical tasks such as programming, cities or crowd instead. Since, I've done several grooms with short timeframes, built a feather system, created in-house tutorials and helped other artists learn to love groom too!
